Is human evolution over?
This was the questions posed by Professor Steve Jones as part of the British Humanist Association hosted Holyoake lecture that took place last night in the Friends Meeting House in Manchester.
Using numerous easily-understandable examples and theories, Professor Jones declared that, in the Western World and in the immediate future, human evolution is indeed over.
You can see this lecture at SlowTV.
I disagree with him as a less genetically variable population (one of his end-of-evolution theorems) would be more susceptible to cataclysms so allowing natural selection to kick back into action. However, during the question session after the lecture he did add a caveat relating to this to his theory.
Also, I read too much sci-fi and want humans to evolve.
